Even still, I cannot send certain key combinations. For Instance 'Win + D' and 'Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Q' doesn't seem to work. Should I enable anything else? FYI: I am connecting to a Ubuntu Machine from a Windows Machine. Mwb1100 writes: 'Use Ctrl-Alt-End in the RDP client to send a Ctrl-Alt-delete to the remote session.' Thanks for the tip mwb1100. Your approach sends a Ctrl-Alt-Del to the remote host which triggers the Windows Security screen and the following dialog from Player. Del: Send CTRL+ALT+DEL Left/Right Arrow: Iterate between remote monitors NUMPAD 1.9: Switch to a specific remote monitor For example, to log on to a remote machine. Jan 19, 2017 I know, that it can be done, since on some system, where I connect to, there is this ctrl-alt-del in the top level on the tool bar. Go to Solution. Tags: ctrl-alt-del. Remote Desktop is a nifty little windows feature that allows you to remotely connect to another PC and manage it as if you were physically at the console.
You can read my previous post on how to setup remote desktop in Windows XP. If you need to remote desktop into Windows 10, read this post.

When connecting to another machine, just about all keyboard actions are transmitted to the remote machine, i.e. pressing Enter, typing, pressing the Windows key, etc. However, that is not the case for some key combinations.
One that has bothered me for a very long time when using Remote Desktop in Windows is when I press Ctrl + Alt + Del while logged into the remote computer. Instead of sending the key combo to the remote computer, it would instead perform the action on my computer! R player plus for mac.
This was actually intended by Microsoft because there are many cases where you may not want that to be sent to the remote computer. So, by default, Ctrl + Alt + Del will only work for the local computer.
So how does one perform this same action on the remote computer? It’s pretty easy actually! In order to send Ctrl + Alt + Del to the remote PC, just press the following alternate key combination:
That’s it! Pretty easy eh? Unfortunately, I tend to use Remote Desktop rarely and therefore forget this key combo all the time!
Some people have also followed up with me and asked about multiple RDP sessions, i.e. A – B – C. So A is remotely connected to B and B is remotely connected to C. In this case, you have to load up the On-Screen Keyboard on the final machine (C). You can do that by running osk.exe (press Windows key + R and typing in osk).
Now on your host machine (A), press and hold the CTRL and ALT keys on your physical keyboard and then press the DEL key on the on-screen keyboard. That’s one way to do it.
You can also open the on-screen keyboard on computer B and then type CTRL + ALT + END, which will send CTRL + ALT + DEL to computer C.
Also, note that there are a bunch of other keyboard shortcuts you can use in Remote Desktop:

Those are pretty much all of the remote desktop keyboard shortcuts you will ever need! If you know of anymore, post a comment! Enjoy!
In some cases on Windows Vista or later (including Windows 7 and Server 2008) if Ctrl-Alt-Del is enabled and User Account Control(UAC) is switched off it may be necessary to change the Group Policy to enable 'Simulation of the Secure Attention Sequence in Software'. To do this please run through the following steps:Penny Arcade
- Start Menu - Run
- Type in 'gpedit.msc' and hit OK
- Under the tree item: Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - Windows Components - Windows Logon Options
- Right click 'Disable or enable software Secure Attention Sequence'
- Select 'Properties'
- In the dialog that pops up select 'Enabled'
- In the drop down menu under 'Set which software is allowed to generate the Secure Attention Sequence' select' Services and Ease of Access Applications'
- Hit OK
- Close the Group Policy window
Ctrl-Alt-Delete as sent by the Remote Access service is purely simulating the secure attention sequence (Ctrl-Alt-Delete) at login time. Using this menu item at other times to launch task manager or lock the screen etc will have no effect, however these can be accomplished easily via other means.
In the unlikely event that you are still unable to send Ctrl-Alt-Del after making these changes please check the following:
- You are sending CAD via the Ctrl-Alt-Del (Login Signal) menu item (Tools menu) in SimpleGateway
- Is there a group policy overriding the local policy on the relevant machine? (for example, is the machine part of a domain?)
